Why Project for Organic Olives and Olive Oil?
EU is the largest producer of olive oil at global level, accounting for 69% of world production. Realizing that organic food market has a strong potential, many olives farmers have been switching to organic farming, which is better in terms of quality and environmental sustainability.
Unfortunately there is a lack of staff and funding. Farmers and producers need support in the three years transition period to organic production and a training. The knowledge and competences they need are how to maintain and renew the old olive groves, master organic production techniques/treatments to fight most dangerous diseases, develop new plantation with more productive varieties, strengthen the processing and innovate with new organic products, better promote traditional products, and valorize the important natural and cultural heritage associated with the olive groves through touristic activities.
Online learning platform, with comprehensive and user-friendly outlook and navigation, to host the EcoOlives Training course modules on organic olives and olive oil production and marketing, culture engaged with the gastronomic and landscape heritage of the region, examples of using culture & create interest & promotion of the region through its OO & OO culture & their historical influence and interconnections; etc. E-learning environment provides a lot of interactivity between the training course and the other resources. Available free of charge.
Specific section set as databank within the Platform with various resources – both interactive and passive materials – for both the trainer and the trainees, on the topic of organic olives and olive oils production and marketing, cultural heritage, competitions, tourism, etc. This section also contains self-preparatory tests, activities, case studies, videos for the trainees and additional learning materials on the topics.
